By a 38-12 vote, the Senate passed a bill that
would add economic reasons to the list of circumstances when school districts
can layoff professional staff.
The measure is
intended to provide school district officials with more options in dealing with
budgetary issues.
FYI - In the House of Representatives, HB 855 is awaiting action by the House Education Committee. HB 855 also provides for economic furloughs and does not contain provisions that are contained in SB 612.
