Took 20 years for Wisconsin to even require testing for children in voucher schools. When results confirmed that the schools weren't working, it prompted immediate action: Wisconsin introduced legislation to outlaw the tests and expand voucher schools.

Supporters and opponents of school vouchers faced off in Philadelphia Wednesday as the Pennsylvania House Education Committee took testimony. Proposed legislation would offer low-income students vouchers worth thousands of dollars to attend private or religious schools.

School districts in Pennsylvania may find it more difficult to embark on construction or renovation projects after legislation signed by Gov. Tom Corbett last month limited their ability to raise property taxes.
