Put the Brakes on Charter School Expansion!!
Please Contact Your Senate and House Members before Sunday (June 26)
PSBA has learned that Gov. Corbett and General Assembly are now pushing hard to enact legislation to expand the number of charter schools. The General Assembly will be in voting session this weekend, so it is imperative that calls and emails be made quickly to members of both the Senate and House of Representatives.

Senate Education Committee will consider HB 1330 at a meeting on Monday June 27
HB 1330 is the EITC bill that the House passed in response to SB1. Keep an eye on this one folks - It is my understanding that it could be a vehicle for any public school code amendment including vouchers.

The constitutionally mandated June 30 deadline to pass a state budget is less than a week away. The move afoot to try to enact one of the most sweeping changes in Pennsylvania education by that deadline is one of noble intentions, but bad timing.
Enacting vouchers in an 11th-hour deal would exacerbate an already tough education budget year, and it might not give families or schools (public or private) time to adequately plan.

Catholic schools urge support for school choice

HOPEWELL TWP. — Catholic schools representatives are backing a state iniative by a local legislator that would provide vouchers for students in poor-performing public schools.
Ronald Bowes, assistant superintendent of public policy and development for the Diocese of Pittsburgh, said education should always be a matter of choice, not chance, and he encouraged supporters to press their local legislators for passage of the bill.
