HARRISBURG — Expanding the state's 10-year-old education scholarship program seems a better alternative to many lawmakers than voting for taxpayer-funded school vouchers, House members said yesterday.

No Accountability in Existing State Program Funneling Tax Credits to Private Schools

HARRISBURG, PA (April 7, 2011) — Despite receiving roughly a third of a billion dollars in taxpayer funds over the past decade, a state program that funds scholarships for students attending private and religious schools lacks fundamental accountability measures.
The Keystone Research Center made this finding in a new report assessing the state's decade-old Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) Program.

Norristown, Pottsgrove teachers agree to freeze wages

Ravitch: 'Way past time to get mad'

Dear Deborah,
It is way past time to get mad. Each week, it is hard to know which of the latest outrages against American public education is the worst.
Perhaps it was the agreement between the Gates Foundation and the Pearson Foundation to write the nation's curriculum. When did we vote to hand over American education to them? Why would we outsource the nation's curriculum to a for-profit publishing and test-making corporation based in London? Does Bill Gates get to write the national curriculum because he is the richest man in America?
