Check with your PTOs and see if they might be interested in hosting their legislators county-wide like the PTOs from 12 school districts in Chester County did last week. Our legislators may discount what they hear from school board members and superintendents, but when they have to stand in front of a crowd of voters their radar is functioning at 100 percent.

HB 1326 Reported out of Committee; would remove all Act 1 exceptions
Capitolwire has reported that the House Finance Committee today reported out HB1326 (Grove) that would eliminate all Act 1 exceptions, by a vote along party lines 15-10. Five Democratic amendments were defeated including one that would have maintained the special education exception.

The state House has voted 190-7 to expand the state's program that gives tax breaks to companies that contribute to private school scholarship funds or innovative educational programming at public schools.
The measure now goes to the Senate for consideration.

HARRISBURG — The sponsor of the Senate bill to provide school choice through tuition vouchers said today that an alternative tax credit proposal the House is set to approve is "dead on arrival" in his chamber.
Those words come from Senate Education Chairman Jeffrey Piccola, R-Dauphin County, whose committee would consider the education tax credit expansion the House is likely to approve, according to Piccola's spokeswoman Colleen Greer.
The Senate has yet to round up the votes for Piccola's S.B. 1, but he and Sen. Anthony Williams, D-Philadelpha, the co-sponsor, are driving hard for a vote.

House Republicans unveil budget proposal that lessens cuts to school districts, public universities

House Republican Appropriation Committee Chairman Bill Adolph, R-Delaware, has introduced a budget proposal that reduces the cut to education but maintains the spending level at Gov. Tom Corbett's proposed $27.3 billion budget. Under the plan, school districts would receive $100 million more than Corbett proposed for basic education . It also allots $100 million for the accountability block grant program that many school districts use to fund full-day kindergarten, preschool and tutoring programs.
