Cosponsorship memo: Charter and Cyber School Law Overhaul

Senators Piccola, Dinniman and Williams have circulated a memo dated March 8, 2011 seeking cosponsors for proposed legislation that would overhaul the charter school and cyber charter school laws.

Creates a Statewide Commission for Charter Schools and Cyber Charter Schools

Improves accountability and transparency

Expands the entities that can legally authorize a charter school

Allows for easier conversion of existing public schools to charter schools

Streamlines the process by which charter schools are formed, evaluated and renewed

Streamlines the process by which charter schools are funded

Creates an advisory committee to review funding and make recommendations
