Today I read Jan Murphy’s Harrisburg Patriot News coverage of the Pennsylvania Society weekend in New York
“We’re having more fun than the Democrats,” joked Rep. Ronald Marsico, R-Lower Paxton Twp., at a reception at Maggie’s Place, an Irish pub, where Corbett and Lt. Gov.-elect Jim Cawley were the guests of honor.
Several midstaters — Rep. Sheryl Delozier, R-Lower Allen Twp.; Rep. Eugene DePasquale, D-York; and Dauphin County District Attorney Edward M. Marsico Jr. — were among those spotted in the casually dressed crowd at Maggie’s, or at least trying to get in the door. It was so jammed that even a blue jean-clad Corbett had a difficult time getting in.
Once inside, Corbett worked the crowd, greeting diners as he passed by tables. Once other partygoers caught sight of him, they swarmed around him, offering congratulations and wishing him luck.
Sponsoring an event comes at no small price but is worth it, said Chris Bravacos, president and CEO of the Bravo Group, a public advocacy firm that was a sponsor of the Saturday afternoon reception at Maggie’s.
“It’s a great place to keep awareness for your firm and the services you provide and ... helps with relationships,” Bravacos said. “There’s not many events that bring everybody together like that where you have an opportunity to have your firm in front of people.”
While official business usually doesn’t get transacted at society weekend, he said the social setting helps to build relationships that can lead to opportunities that lie ahead after Pennsylvanians put away their tuxedos and party dresses and return to their jobs in the Keystone State.
