Auditor General Jack Wagner calls for moratorium on new charter schools

JAN MURPHY, The Patriot-News Taxpayers spend about $1 billion annually to educate about 73,000 children in Pennsylvania charter and cyber charter schools.

Auditor General Jack Wagner said Pennsylvanians are getting a bad deal when it comes to the funding of charter and cyber charter schools. So he is calling for a moratorium on the creation of any more of these independent public schools until the funding formula for them is changed.

Critic: Halt new charters until funding is fixed

Pennsylvania Auditor General Jack Wagner, a longtime critic of how the state funds charter schools, this morning called for Gov. Rendell and the Legislature to impose a statewide moratorium on new charter and cyber charter schools until a flawed funding system is replaced.
