Need your input on mandate relief
When we met with Senate Education Committee Minority Chairman Andy Dinniman this summer in his District Office and at a regional meeting at the T/E School District in September he indicated that mandate relief was an area that the State Legislature might be receptive to working on.
In a meeting with Senate Ed Committee member Anthony Williams last week we had an opportunity to further discuss his view of the political landscape for education come January.
He indicated that there would likely be no money and that mandate relief was an area where we might work together productively.
Please touch base with your Superintendents and Business Managers and let me know what would be on your short list for the top 5 or 10 items that would be most beneficial to your district through mandate relief legislation.

Editorial: Time for pols to weigh in on teacher strikes
Property owners are hit year after year with tax hikes calculated by local school boards. The only group that can halt the growing disparity between those who pay school salaries and those receiving them is the incoming Pennsylvania Legislature, which must enact a law making public school teacher strikes illegal.

Just a few short days after it and several other bills appeared to be dead for the session, the House concurred on Senate amendments to the pension bill, HB 2497, sending the measure to the governor's desk.
